Talent Bridge is a freelance marketplace for South Africa, built around one problem: the first payment between two people who have never met.
Why we built it
South Africa has an enormous amount of freelance talent and a genuinely bad market for it. Work gets arranged in WhatsApp groups and Facebook comments, paid — when it is paid — by EFT against an invoice that goes unanswered for sixty days, and argued about with no record of what was ever agreed.
Both sides carry real risk in that arrangement, and both sides know it. A client hands money to someone they found online and hopes. A freelancer does three weeks of work and hopes. Whoever moves first is exposed, so often nobody moves at all, and the work does not happen.
Escrow removes that. The money is real, it is visible, and neither party can take it unilaterally. It is not a clever idea — it is the oldest one in commerce — but nobody was doing it properly here, in rands, at a price that made sense for a R5 000 job.
Where we are
Talent Bridge is early. The marketplace works end to end — posting, bidding, hiring, escrow, delivery, payout, reviews and disputes — and it is being run carefully rather than quickly.
We would rather be honest about that than pretend to a scale we do not have. If something is not built yet, we say so on the page where you would expect to find it.
What we hold ourselves to
The money is never ours
Funds in escrow are a liability on our books, not revenue. They are backed one-for-one, they earn us no interest, and every movement is a line in an append-only ledger that both parties can read.
Rands, not dollars
Every amount on Talent Bridge is in South African rand, stored as integer cents, and paid out by EFT to a local bank account. No conversion, no spread, no waiting on an international transfer.
One fee, stated plainly
10% of the contract, from the freelancer's side, on release. No subscription, no listing fee, nothing added at checkout, and nothing at all on work that gets refunded.
Both sides get a say
Reviews are double-blind. Disputes are heard from both parties before a decision. Suspensions carry a written reason, and the person is told what it is.
